Official Senior Training

Official training will commence on Tuesday 1st July, at the club for 7pm. The new showers are now in place and are working superb. All players of all abilities are very welcome, we are training at Widden until September 2nd when we move training to Hartpury College on both Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Widden Senior 7's 2008

Widden hosted the 5th Annual 7’s competition at the weekend, Dursley went onto to win the Cup final and the Storm All Blacks won the Plate. More....

AGM

Widden are hosting the annual AGM on Tuesday 10th June 2008, starting at 8pm. All members welcome to attend to vote in next seasons Management.

Junior Section Registration

All current and new players within the junior section should register for next season at the clubhouse on Sunday 10th August from 10am through to 3pm. There is an annual charge of £30 per player, cheques are payable to "Widden Old Boys". All coaches and/or Managers should be at the club to register players on this date. Any players that are unable to attend this date should register by the 31st August 2008.

Programme Advertising

Widden are going to produce a glossy colour programme for all visitors and supporters at every senior 1st XV home league match. We are currently seeking 9 sponsors to have an advert in every programme for the small cost of £50 (+VAT). If you feel your company could benefit from the advertising, whilst supporting your club, please email Mike Charnock for further information.

Mini/Midi & Junior Fixtures 2008/2009

Most of the junior section fixtures are now live on the relevant team pages. Any other fixtures will be added when confirmed. We are awaiting the National Cup fixtures for the colts, so please be patient !

Merit Table Fixtures 2008/2009

All of the senior 2nd & 3rd XV fixtures have just been released. Feel free to browse the relevant team pages... 2nd XV page / 3rd XV page. The 3rd XV players may notice they were denied promotion, this is due to Old Pats 2nd XV entering the merit table and going straight into the top league.

Senior Membership

Senior players are reminded to pay membership, as 55 players have already paid. Please remember you only get kit if you are within the first 65 to pay! We are ordering all kit this week, so to guarantee you get the right size, please pay John or Caroline (behind the bar) and supply your sizes to them.

RugbyTech

Widden have signed a three-year agreement with RugbyTech to allow us to purchase playing kit through them at very competitive rates. We will at some stage have an online shop to order playing kit, delivered directly to your house. Part of the contract states all age groups within the club must order through RugbyTech, so with this in mind team Managers are reminded NOT to order playing kit, unless you go through Mike Charnock.

New Players Sign

The senior section signed 11 new players at last nights presentation, including Rob Cooke and James Knight from Coney Hill, Dave Brown from Gloucester Old Boys and Joe Gordon from Spartans. We also had 7 players sign from the Widden junior section including Reuben Haile, Dave Best, Luke Carr, Adam Hannis, Lewis Hawkins, Alex James and Jordan McKenna.

Senior Presentations

The senior awards and dinner will be held on Friday June 6th at the clubhouse, £1.50 a pint all night, cost per ticket is £30. Please pay bar staff before numbers run out.

Senior Bike Ride

The annual bike ride (Sat 28th June 2008), will now be a sponsored bike ride so we can replace the boiler. This will in turn be used by all seniors, juniors and mini players throughout the season. We would like every player to gain £20 in sponsorship, forms behind the bar. A prize will be awarded to the player with the most sponsorship.

The Year Of Second Place !

On the weekend Widdens Under 11s played in a tournament at Kingsolm, and like all other teams this season lost in the final. The Senior 1st xv lost in the plate final, the 3rd XV were runners up in the merit table, the colts and U16s both lost the cup final and the U9s lost their plate final.

NGC Cup Midweek

Widden 3rd XV also exited in the semi final of the NGC Cup on Wednesday evening, they started well, but lost to Old Richians 18 - 16.

Junior NGC Cup Update

Widdens senior 2nd XV exited the junior cup last night in the semi final, losing to Coney Hill 23 - 3. A good performance by all on the evening, especially the defence in the second half.

County Cup Final

Our Under 16's are playing in the County Cup final this Sunday against Cheltenham. The game will be at the Prince Of Wales Stadium in Cheltenham kicking off around 2pm, all support very welcome.

Aaron Inspires Rugby Match

A vets rugby was held on Sunday, inspired by a brave Matson schoolboy Aaron Osborne has raised money for a cancer charity. Widden and Old Cryptians Veterans took on ex-Gloucester players in the Cherry Pickers and were runners up !
